Folds of Honor Challenge rained out
The final round of the Folds of Honor Challenge was rained out Monday morning, and No. 4 Gulf Coast will finish the event in 11th place.
All the teams were out the course on The Meadows in Allendale, Mich., in the early going of the third round when the rain set in. It didn't lift in time for the course to be playable.
Host Grand Valley State, which is ranked seventh in NCAA Division II, shot 1-over to win by five shots over NCAA Division II Wayne State.
Gulf Coast beat Grand Rapids, the only other NJCAA Division II team in the field, by 23 shots over two rounds.
Peyton Russell (Fr., Gautier/Gautier) was the top Bulldog, finishing at 2-over tied for 11th. Grand Valley's Drew Coble won medalist at 5-under.
The field included the fifth-ranked team in NCAA Division II (Lee), the fifth-ranked team in NCAA Division III (Illinois Wesleyan) and the No. 1 team in NJCAA Division I.
Gulf Coast will hit the road against next week for the NJCAA Preview at Twin Hills Golf Club in Joplin, Mo. That will be the site of the national championship in May. The Bulldogs will play 54 holes over Monday and Tuesday.
