Hunt, Parish named Bulldogs of the Week

PERKINSTON — Ja'Sharreah Hunt and Duran Parish have been named Bulldogs of the Week for March 11-17.

Hunt, a sophomore guard from Roxie, averaged 15.3 points, 4.0 rebounds and 3.0 assists as Gulf Coast won three games on the way to the Region 23 championship. In the championship game against Southwest Mississippi, Hunt had 23 points, three rebounds and three assists in a 62-50 victory. The Bulldogs earned a trip to the national championship in Casper, Wyoming.

Duran Parish, a freshman guard from Biloxi, averaged 17.3 points, 7.0 rebounds and 6.7 assists during Gulf Coast's run to the Region 23 championship game. He had 21 points, nine rebounds and eight assists in an 88-82 win over Meridian. In the 83-81 loss to Jones in the finals, he had 17 points, seven rebounds and seven assists. 

Also nominated:

Adrian Byrd, a sophomore from Wiggins, had two sparking shutout relief appearances to help Gulf Coast win twice last week. In a 12-6 win over Copiah-Lincoln, he struck out three in three two-hit innings. During another three-inning stint against Itawamba, he had four strikeouts and just one walk.

Stanley Campbell, a freshman from London, England, shot 2-under over 54 holes at the GlenLakes Invitational in Foley, Ala., to help lead No. 1 Gulf Coast to a seventh-straight tournament win. He tied for second with teammate Will Burnham.

Dom Jackson, a freshman outfielder from Gulf Breeze, Fla., slugged two home runs and had three doubles in a 3-1 week for Gulf Coast. He had a home run and three RBI in a 12-6 win over Copiah-Lincoln, and cracked another homer in a 7-4 loss in the nightcap. Jackson had two doubles and three RBI in the first game of a sweep against Itawamba and another double in the nightcap. 

Kylee Necaise, a sophomore from Gulfport, went 1-0 with a 0.91 ERA in two appearances last week. She allowed just one unearned run in 7.2 innings.

Savannah Wilbanks, a freshman infielder from Southaven, batted .714 with a home run and six RBI during a 2-2 week. She had a homer in an 8-7 win in the first game against Itawamba, followed by a three-run triple in the second game, an 11-0 victory.
