Fields, Gibson named Bulldogs of the Week

PERKINSTON — Simaru Fields and Javen Gibson have been named Bulldogs of the Week for Oct. 30-Nov. 5.

Fields, a sophomore guard from Pass Christian, had 16 points, six rebounds, two assists and two steals in Gulf Coast's season-opening 74-65 win over Indian River State in Tallahassee.

Gibson, a freshman defensive lineman from Church Point, La., had eight total tackles in No. 6 Gulf Coast's 3-0 win at No. 10 Jones. He had two tackles for loss, including 1.5 sacks, plus a quarterback hurry.

Leah Capiola, a freshman keeper from Wiggins, had eight saves in Gulf Coast's 1-0 loss to Pearl River in the NJCAA Gulf South District quarterfinal. 

Jabarie Robinson, a sophomore guard from Raymond, filled up the stat sheets in a pair of Gulf Coast victories to open the season. He averaged 15.0 points, 4.0 rebounds, 2.5 assists, 2.5 steals and 1.0 blocks in a 99-82 win over Chattahoochee Valley and an 89-68 win over Enterprise State.

Mills Sheridan, a freshman midfielder from Brandon, had a goal and two assists for Gulf Coast at the NJCAA Gulf South District Tournament. He had two assists in a 3-2 overtime win over Itawamba, including on the game-winner. In a 3-2 loss to Pearl River in the finals, he had the game-tying goal which eventually forced overtime.

Gabriel Showalter, a sophomore from St. Martin, made all five placement attempts and continued his strong kickoff performance at Jones. He made three field goals and both extra points. Showalter has made all 45 extra points this year and leads the NJCAA in that category and kicking points. He averaged 63.7 yards on six kickoffs with three touchbacks.

Jamari Thompson, a sophomore running back from Pearl, scored both touchdowns at Jones. He ran 17 times for 75 yards, including a 49-yard touchdown on the third play from scrimmage. He also had a 34-yard catch-and-run for a touchdown on a third-and-long in the fourth quarter.
