Anderson, Viquez named Bulldogs of the Week

PERKINSTON — Eli Anderson and Elissa Viquez have been named Bulldogs of the Week for Sept. 25-Oct. 1. 

Anderson, a sophomore from Philadelphia, Miss., accounted for six touchdowns in No. 4 Gulf Coast's 42-17 win at No. 6 East Mississippi. He completed 18-of-32 passes for 273 yards and five touchdowns and scored on a 10-yard run.

Viquez, a freshman from St. Rose, La., had a goal and an assist in a 5-0 blanking of East Central in Decatur. The midfielder was part of a balanced attack that saw five different players score.

Also nominated:  

Leah Capiola, a freshman from Wiggins, had four saves to blank East Central 5-0 at Decatur. It was her first career shutout.

David Ruiz Ospina, a freshman from Manizales, Colombia, stopped all six shots he faced to help run No. 17 Gulf Coast's shutout streak to 273 minutes. He made four saves in a 4-0 win at Northwest Mississippi, then had two more in a 2-0 victory at East Central. He leads the MACCC with five shutouts.

Gabriel Showalter, a sophomore from St. Martin, made all six extra points in No. 4 Gulf Coast's 42-17 win at No. 6 East Mississippi. He had four touchbacks on seven kickoffs and forced two fair catches on four punts.

Kade Smith, a freshman forward from London, England, had two goals in each of two games for No. 17 Gulf Coast. He had a pair of goals in a 4-0 win at Northwest Mississippi, and both goals in a 2-0 win at East Central.

Wyatt Wright, a sophomore linebacker from Bridgeville, Del., had 18 tackles to lead No. 4 Gulf Coast to a 42-17 win at No. 6 East Mississippi. In holding the Lions to 27 points under their season scoring average, he had 12 solo tackles plus a quarterback hurry.
