Smith, Fields named Bulldogs of the Week

PERKINSTON — Omarion Smith and Simaru Fields have been named Bulldogs of the Week for Nov. 27-Dec. 3.

Smith, a sophomore forward from Atlanta, Ga., averaged 14 points and 9 rebounds in a 2-0 week for Mississippi Gulf Coast. He registered a dominant double-double in an 85-79 win at No. 19 Pearl River with 18 points and 14 rebounds. He shot 7-of-9 from the field, including making both 3-pointers and both free throws. In 20 minutes of play in a 93-63 blowout of the William Carey JV, Smith had 10 points and four rebounds.

Fields, a sophomore guard from Pass Christian, averaged 20.5 points and 6.5 rebounds during a 1-1 week for Mississippi Gulf Coast. In a 75-52 loss at No. 8 Pensacola State, he had 20 points and six rebounds. In a 100-52 win over Tallahassee, she had 21 points and seven rebounds. She made 7-of-16 3-pointers (43.8 percent) for the week.
