Craig, Pickering named Bulldogs of the Week

PERKINSTON — LaDareyen Craig and Morgan Pickering have been named the Bulldogs of the Week for Oct. 23-29.

Craig, a sophomore cornerback from Mobile, Ala., had two interceptions in No. 6 Gulf Coast's 41-0 win over Hinds. The first pick sparked a 35-point second-half outburst.

Pickering, a sophomore forward from Wiggins, had two goals to break a tie and give Gulf Coast a 3-1 win at Southwest Mississippi. With the game tied 1-1 in the second half, she scored a pair of long-range goals that gave the Bulldogs 10 wins for the first time since 2016.

Leah Capiola, a freshman keeper from Wiggins, had five saves at Southwest Mississippi.

Jalen Davis, a sophomore running back from Houston, Texas, had 20 carries for 94 yards and scored twice against Hinds. After only carrying one time in the previous seven games, he averaged nearly five yards a carry.

Victor Moerck, a freshman forward from Vaerloese, Denmark, had a goal and an assist in a 3-1 win at Southwest Mississippi which clinched the MACCC championship for No. 12 Gulf Coast. He scored the opener then assisted on the final goal which put the Bulldogs up 3-0.

Gabriel Showalter, a sophomore from St. Martin, made all seven placement attempts and continued his strong kickoff performance against Hinds. He made both field goals and five extra points. Showalter has made all 43 extra points this year and leads the NJCAA in that category and kicking points. He averaged 63.8 yards on kickoffs with one touchback and had 3-of-5 punts land inside the 20.
