Expanded Meet The Teams event set for Aug. 24

PERKINSTON — Mississippi Gulf Coast's Meet The Teams will be bigger and better in 2023, moving inside the new Dantzler Arena. SuperTalk Mississippi will also be broadcasting from the event.

The event will start at 5:30 p.m. on Aug. 24 with the Bulldogs' football, men's and women's soccer teams, and men's and women's basketball teams being introduced. The Cheerleaders, Band of Gold and Perkettes will also take center stage. This will be the first season the basketball teams will take part in the festivities.

There will be a T-shirt giveaway, pizza and Coke giveaways for students who come out to meet their fellow students who compete in Gulf Coast uniforms. The Perkinston Campus Bookstore will be open until 7 p.m. for anybody interested in buying the latest MGCCC gear.

The SportsTalk Mississippi broadcast will take place starting at 3 p.m. The three-hour show featuring Richard Cross, Brian Hadad and Michael Borkey will be heard statewide during the three-hour episode.

Coach Jack Wright's football Bulldogs have won a share of the MACCC South title last year, a school-record fourth straight year they've won or shared the crown. Gulf Coast's gridiron season starts Sept. 7 when Northwest Mississippi visits Perk.

Coach Chris Handy is back for his 12th season in charge of the men's soccer program. The Bulldogs advanced to the NJCAA Region 23 semifinals last year and open the regular season Aug. 25 with a trip to Texas to take on national power Tyler. Their home schedule starts Sept. 1 when Andrew College visits.

New women's soccer coach Ryan Joiner will kick off his first season at Bary Thrash Field on Aug. 22. Archrival Pearl River visits for a non-conference match.

Coach Hope Adams will be in her seventh season in charge of the women's basketball team. Last year's squad went 17-6 and reached the NJCAA Region 23 semifinals. This year's team tips off Nov. 3-4 with a trip to Florida to play in the Tallahassee Classic. Their home schedule starts Nov. 9 when Jones visits.

New men's basketball coach Owen Miller will start his first season in charge on Nov. 3-4 with a pair of games in Poplarville. The Bulldogs' first game in Dantzler Arena will be part of the Nov. 9 doubleheader against Jones.
