Burnham wins SwingU College Player of the Fall

PERKINSTON — Will Burnham had a great first semester in his sophomore season, earning him SwingU College Player of the Fall honors.

The national awards, presented by the Golf Coaches Association of America and golf technology and media company SwingU, are selected in seven divisions across college golf. Burnham, a sophomore from Jackson, sits atop the Spikemark national rankings in NJCAA Division II. The Bulldogs are ranked first, as well.

Burnham, a Southern Miss signee, has a first place and three other top-three finishes in his five events. He won the Bobcat Invitational in Laurel and tied with teammate Peyton Russell for the 54-hole lead in the NJCAA Division II National Preview before falling on the first playoff hole. He has four career first-place finishes.

Burnham won the Phil Mickelson Award as the nation's top freshman in NJCAA Division II and earned NJCAA All-American Second Team honors.

Gulf Coast has won four straight tournaments headed into the holiday break. The Bulldogs will return to action Feb. 5-6 in the Gulf Coast Invitational, the fourth MACCC event of the year.
