No. 4 Bulldogs look to extend MACCC streak

PERKINSTON — No. 4 Mississippi Gulf Coast is on the ground in Philadelphia getting ready for their first MACCC event of the season at the Warrior Invitational.

It'll be the second conference tournament of the season, but the Bulldogs skipped the first one to play in the NJCAA Preview in Missouri. They're getting used to the Dancing Rabbit Golf Club layout, which they'll see again in the spring.

"It's always in good shape up here," Gulf Coast coach Brad Thornton said. "It's a tough test of golf, a championship layout. I'm looking forward to getting out here the next couple of days. It also lets us prepare for the regional in April."

East Central won the first MACCC event played at Mossy Oak Golf Club in West Point, beating Northeast Mississippi by five shots. This week's event has 18 holes on Monday and Tuesday.

Gulf Coast won all six regular-season conference tournaments last year, plus the MACCC Championship and Gulf District title.

Will Burnham (So., Jackson/Jackson Prep), Kyle Davidson (So., Kyalami, South Africa/St. Peter's College), Stanley Campbell (Fr., London, England/Essex Golf College), Peyton Russell (Fr., Gautier/Gautier) and John Mark Mills (Fr., Pontotoc/Mike Bender Golf Academy) will be looking to extend that winning streak at the East Central-hosted event.

Andrew Zielinski (So., Ocean Springs/Ocean Springs) is playing as an individual.

"They understand what the expectations are. Day in and day out, we're trying to win every round. From the time we show up here for the practice round getting ready to play the course, we're trying to get a good gameplan together. We understand if we handle our business, the results take care of themselves."
