No. 11 Men’s Soccer starts title defense Aug. 23

PERKINSTON — Defending MACCC and NJCAA Gulf South District men's soccer champion Mississippi Gulf Coast opens its regular season on Aug. 23 with a road game at Hinds.

The non-conference game, scheduled to start at 7 p.m., kicks off a schedule with eight home dates. The Bulldogs, who made their first appearance in the national tournament last fall, play for the first time at home on Sept. 4 when Patrick & Henry visits for a 6 p.m. kickoff. They open MACCC play at home against Hinds on Nov. 16.

Season tickets are on sale now at http://mgcccbulldogs.com/tickets. They cost $35 for adults and $25 for youth, plus ticketing fees. The full schedule can be seen at https://mgcccbulldogs.com/sports/msoc/2022-23/schedule.

Gulf Coast will open the season ranked 11th in the United Soccer Coaches NJCAA Division II men's soccer preseason poll.

The non-conference slate also includes a road game against Georgia Military, which reached the NJCAA semifinals last fall, and a home-and-home series against Andrew College from Georgia.

The MACCC has changed its regular-season and playoff format for 2022. Divisions have been eliminated, and the conference championship will be determined by the winner of a 10-game round-robin schedule. The men's champion will host the NJCAA Gulf South District tournament and advance directly to the semifinals. The teams that finish second through seventh will play in quarterfinals hosted by the higher-seeded team.

Quarterfinals will be played Oct. 30, with the semifinals on Nov. 4 and the championship on Nov. 6.

The district champion receives an automatic berth in the NJCAA Division II Men's Soccer Championship in Tucson, Ariz., which starts Nov. 14.
