Bulldogs battle to 1-1 tie at Co-Lin

Mississippi Gulf Coast played almost the whole second half of Friday's MACCC men's soccer match against Copiah-Lincoln down a man, but the Bulldogs left Wesson with a 1-1 tie after two scoreless overtime periods.

"We're in a fight right now for a playoff position. We felt like we should have gotten the game, but given the red card, we earned that point."

Gulf Coast is now 4-4-2 overall and 2-1-2 in the MACCC. It was the first points Co-Lin had lost in the league, and the Wolves are now 6-1-2, 3-0-1.

Gulf Coast had a man sent off two minutes after halftime, but took the lead in the 70th minute after Mason Shortt (Fr., Brandon/Northwest Rankin) got on the end of Hyungjoon Lee's free kick from midfield in the six-yard box.

Co-Lin tied it up four minutes before the end of regulation.

"It will be important down the line because we'd like to host a playoff game, so we have to continue to battle until we return to full strength," Handy said. "We're starting to show the right amount of urgency for a team that has the goals we have."

Gulf Coast entertains Northwest Mississippi on Tuesday at Perk. Kickoff at Bary Thrash Field is scheduled for 6 p.m. The game will be streamed at https://mgcccbulldogs.com/watch.
