Gulf Coast loses to another late goal

PERKINSTON — No. 18 Mississippi Gulf Coast lost yet another heartbreaker Friday night, losing 2-1 to visiting St. Louis at Bary Thrash Field.

The Archers got a goal in the 87th minute on a counterattack following a sustained Bulldogs barrage.

Gulf Coast falls to 2-3, with all three losses to teams in the NJCAA Division II Top 20 or receiving votes in the poll. St. Louis is the fourth team out of the Top 20. Gulf Coast lost 3-2 in double overtime at No. 3 Georgia Military and 4-3 to No. 20 Patrick & Henry, which scored with 15 seconds left in regulation.

St. Louis scored the game's first goal in the 14th minute, but Hyungjoon Lee (So., Suwon, South Korea/Dongbuk) scored his eighth goal of the season in the 42nd minute to tie it up. He pounced on a pinballing ball spit back out of the box and sent it into the lower corner.

Gulf Coast threatened repeatedly before the winning goal, and the St. Louis keeper made one remarkable save of a shot by Seongbin Son (So., Seoul, South Korea/Guhyun) in the final two minutes.

St. Louis is now 4-1-1.

Gulf Coast opens MACCC play Friday when Hinds visits Perkinston. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. The game will be streamed at https://mgcccbulldogs.com/watch.
