Bulldogs can’t spring upset on No. 1 Jones

Down a man playing at No. 1 Jones, Mississippi Gulf Coast found a way to tie its men's soccer game late at Ellisville.

But just over a minute later, the Bobcats got the winner and the Bulldogs fell short of the upset 2-1.

Gulf Coast gave up a goal late in the first half and started picking up the pressure in the second half. A red card in the final 15 minutes slowed the momentum, but the Bulldogs got a lifeline when Parker Stephens (So., Hattiesburg/Oak Grove) hammered a clearance into the side netting with 4:19 to play.

Jones, however, scored 75 seconds later on a free kick from the top of the D to stay unbeaten.

The Bulldogs fall to 5-5-2 overall, 3-2-2 MACCC. Jones is 10-0, 7-0.

Gulf Coast returns to action at home on Tuesday. Archrival Pearl River visits Bary Thrash Field with kickoff set for 7 p.m. The game will be streamed at https://mgcccbulldogs.com/watch.
