Gulf Coast ties Southwest

Mississippi Gulf Coast got a rare tie in women's tennis Wednesday, going to Southwest and finishing even at 3-3.

Margarita Lopareva (So., Moscow Russia/School No. 1101) and Megan Bankston (So., Gulfport/Gulfport) won two matches each. They combined to defeat Ali Smith and Kim San 8-2 in No. 1 doubles.

Lopareva defeated Smith 6-0, 6-0 in No. 1 singles, and Bankston won 6-1, 6-1 in No. 2 singles.

Both teams had four tennis players, which made the tie a possibility.

Gulf Coast was scheduled to play Meridian on Thursday in Perkinston has been postponed because of expected bad weather. The Lady Bulldogs have matches scheduled Saturday at the MGCCC Tennis Complex at 10 a.m.
