
5 Bulldogs headed to the Next Level
PERKINSTON — Five members of the 2023 Mississippi Gulf Coast baseball team will be playing at the Next Level next year, led by Sean Smith who is headed to NCAA Division I Georgia Southern.
Four Bulldogs are headed to NAIA schools, including Adam May, who will play for World Series participant William Carey. DJ Walker will go to LSU Shreveport, with Sam Mansell and Nate Anderson headed to Mobile University.
Smith, an outfielder from Pascagoula, led Gulf Coast is hitting (.392) and hits (62). He was second in the MACCC with 15 home runs and was named to the All-MACCC and All-NJCAA Region 23 teams.
Adam May, a pitcher from Magee, (So., Magee/Magee) went 1-3 for the Bulldogs this year with 28 strikeouts in 33 innings. He saw action as a starter, middle reliver and closer in his two years at Perkinston.
Walker, a first baseman/outfielder/designated hitter from Brandon, batted .338 with 11 doubles and five home runs. He was named to the All-MACCC Honorable Mention list.
Mansell, an infielder/pitcher from Laurel, batted .366 while also going 2-3 with 23 strikeouts in 25 innings on the mound. He played second and third base when he wasn't pitching.
Anderson, a pitcher from Poplarville, was the closer for Gulf Coast in 2023. He was 2-0 with 16 strikeouts in 18 innings and led the team with two saves.
