No. 20 Bulldogs lose to No. 4 Tyler

No. 20 Mississippi Gulf Coast saw its men's soccer season end Friday in the South District semifinals, falling at No. 4 Tyler 5-2.

The Bulldogs finish the season 13-3-1.

"I'm not upset with the boys by any stretch," Gulf Coast coach Chris Handy said. "They battled. They showed up, even if the score doesn't look like it. We scored a couple of goals. I'm thankful for the effort they put in."

The Bulldogs fell behind on a 23rd minute penalty, but equalized on the 29th goal of the year by Jordan Hall (So, Manchester, England/Royton and Crompton) nine minutes before halftime.

Tyler (18-2) scored 16 seconds into the second half, however, and added three more to open up a cushion over the Bulldogs. The Apaches have won five of the last eight national championships, including last year.

Michael Rodriguez (Fr, McAllen, Texas/McAllen) scored with six minutes left to end the scoring.

"When you're playing against a good team, maybe the best team, you have to have a little bit of luck," Handy said. "The PK really hurt, the goal to start the second half really hurt. We gave up a goal off a corner. They were legitimate goals, but through the run of play, it wasn't there."
