
No. 19 Gulf Coast edges No. 22 ICC

No. 19 Mississippi Gulf Coast faced No. 22 Itawamba at Fulton and edged a tough foe 5-4 to stay undefeated in the early going of the men's tennis season.
The bottom of the lineup carried the Bulldogs (2-0), with Clint Verrett (So., Gulfport/Gulfport) and Raymond Lam (Fr., Biloxi/Biloxi) only dropping a game in straight-set sweeps at Nos. 4 and 5, respectively.
Wesley Fontaine (So., Biloxi/Biloxi) also won in straight sets, and Patrick Roth (So., Resurrection/Pascagoula) bounced back from dropping the first set in his No. 3 singles match to get a vital point.
Macute and Fontaine won at No. 2 doubles, and Verrett teamed with Lam to win No. 3.
Gulf Coast has its first three home matches on consecutive days starting Tuesday. First serve against Hinds is at 1 p.m.
