Martin’s 16 paces MGCCC past Dolphins
PERKINSTON — Allison Martin jump-started Mississippi Gulf Coast and the Lady Bulldogs avenged an overtime loss to Delgado by beating the Lady Dolphins 70-36 Wednesday.
"Allison brings us a lot of energy," Gulf Coast coach Hope Adams said. "We wanted to jump on them early. That's why we pressed the whole game and dropped back into a 2-3 (zone)."
Gulf Coast was playing its last game before the Christmas break and moved to 4-3. The Lady Bulldogs had lost 51-50 in overtime to Delgado in New Orleans last week, but Martin (Fr., Edwards/Raymond) scored eight on the way to a 10-3 lead halfway through the first quarter.
She finished with 16 points. Kayla Simmons (Fr., Brandon/Brandon) added 14, and Mia Goolsby had 10.
Gulf Coast led 37-21 at half after scoring the final nine points, and led by 28 after three quarters.
Delgado falls to 2-8.
The Lady Bulldogs resume play Jan. 5 when they entertain Bishop State. Tipoff is set for 2 p.m.
They'll return trying to tack onto the first back-to-back wins of the season.
"I feel great going into the break with two wins," said Adams.
