Vos clinches MGCCC’s 4th straight

PERKINSTON — An epic comeback by Austin Vos clinched No. 18 Mississippi Gulf Coast's fourth straight victory of 2019, a 6-3 win over No. 22 Hinds at the MGCCC Tennis Complex.

Vos, a sophomore from Perth, Australia, was down a set and 5-2 in the second, facing a match point against him, when the comeback started.

"I just started making some more shots, putting pressure on the guy," he said. "Really, it was a positive mindset. I was getting down on myself in the first two sets because I couldn't get a ball on the court."

In addition to the win at No. 1 singles, Vos teamed with Cole Wagoner (Fr., Ocean Springs/Ocean Springs) to pull out their No. 1 doubles match late. They broke serve a 6-all, then closed it out Vos' serve.

Evan Chubb (So., Biloxi/St. Patrick) picked up a pair of wins, teaming with Patrick Roth (Fr., Pascagoula/Resurrection) to win 8-4 at No. 2 doubles. He won his No. 4 singles match 7-5, 6-1.

Gulf Coast returns to action Tuesday when the Bulldogs head to Jones. First serves in Ellisville will be at 2 p.m.
