Vos signs at UNO
PERKINSTON — Mississippi Gulf Coast men's tennis player Austin Vos has signed to continue his collegiate playing career at NCAA Division I New Orleans.
"It's a great program," said the sophomore from Perth Australia. "The coach is well-accredited. He's competed at a high level. They had good results, and it's in a big city. It's a dream."
Despite being slowed by injury this year, he went 7-4 in singles and 12-2 in doubles with Cole Wagoner. He helped Gulf Coast finish the regular season 16-1 overall.
"Gulf Coast gave me the platform to play at the high level, at nationals every year," Vos said. "I played in the pressure matches. Gary did a lot of good stuff teaching me how to play under pressure."
The Privateers play in the Southland Conference.
"Austin took a leadership role this year as a sophomore," Gulf Coast coach Gary Bourgeois said. "We had a great year last year. He was injured some this year, but the younger players look up to him. He won their respect with his play on the court. His success in practice showed them they have to practice hard to play well."
