No. 14 Gulf Coast loses for first time

PERKINSTON — No. 14 Mississippi Gulf Coast dropped its first match of the year Tuesday, falling 5-4 to Jones on Tuesday at the MGCCC Tennis Complex.

The Bulldogs are now 15-1 overall, 11-1 in the MACJC. No. 1 singles player Austin Vos was unable to play because of illness, which forced a reshuffling of the squad's deck.

Reid Crow (Fr., Wesson/Wesson) and Clint Verrett (Fr., Gulfport/Gulfport) won 8-4 over James McWilliams-Cody Courtney 8-4 in No. 3 doubles. Evan Chubb (So., Biloxi/St. Patrick) won 6-2, 6-3 at No. 3 singles over Erich Fischer.

The Bulldogs won Nos. 5 and 6 singles behind Wesley Fontaine (Fr., Biloxi/Biloxi) and Anthony Schloegel (Fr., Gulfport/St. Patrick), with Schloegel winning all 12 games.

Gulf Coast is right back in action Wednesday with a trip to Southwest. First serves are set for 1 p.m.

The Lady Bulldogs last two regular-season matches are Thursday when Meridian visits at 1 p.m., and Saturday when Copiah-Lincoln plays at 10 a.m.
