Mississippi Gulf Coast played a tough 45 minutes at No. 2 Holmes on Thursday, but a one-goal deficit turned into a 6-2 loss in Ridgeland.
The Bulldogs (1-1) fell behind in the 11th minute before Katie Brown (Fr., Picayune/Home School) equalized.
Holmes (2-0) scored two goals in the next three minutes, but Ashley Preston (So., Wiggins/Stone) pulled Gulf Coast to 3-2 in the 34th minute. The Bulldogs took that score into the break, but Holmes scored twice in the first 15 minutes of the second half to take control.
Gulf Coast plays its first home match on Monday when Meridian visits. It will also be the first MACCC South test of the season. Kickoff is set for 5 p.m.
