Bulldogs batter Eagles 4-0

PERKINSTON — Mississippi Gulf Coast thoroughly dominated Meridian on Monday in women's soccer action, pounding the Eagles 4-0.

Alyssa Palisi (Fr., Diamondhead/Hancock) had a pair of goals for the Bulldogs (2-1) in the MACCC South opener.

Katie Brown (Fr., Picayune/Home School) opened the scoring in the 13th minute, finishing a brilliant counterattack by converting a pass from Leah Bennett (Fr., Cape Town South Africa/Mondeor).

Palisi got her first after pouncing on a poor goal-kick clearance. She hooked a shot from a sharp angle on the left wing, whipping it around the Meridian keeper in the 42nd minute.

He second came in the 56th minute after taking a beautiful through-ball from Brown. Her first shot was saved, but the rebound popped back up to her, and she volleyed it home with the outside of her right shoe.

Bennett closed the scoring in literally the final second, converting a penalty kick earned by Brown with one tick on the clock.

Gulf Coast travels to Jones on Friday. Kickoff is set for 5 p.m.
