Brown, Smith named Bulldogs of the Week

PERKINSTON — Katie Brown and Mike Smith have been named Bulldogs of the Week for Sept. 13-19. 

Brown, a sophomore midfielder from Picayune, had a foot in every scoring play during Gulf Coast's 3-0 win at Copiah-Lincoln. She scored a goal and assisted on two others.

Smith, a sophomore linebacker from Flora, led No. 5 Gulf Coast's defensive efforts against archrival Pearl River. He registered nine total tackles in a 33-10 win, including a tackle for loss. Smith made a leaping interception he returned for 25 yards to set up a short touchdown drive that opened the scoring.

Hyungjoon Lee, a freshman midfielder from Suwon, South Korea, scored both goals in No. 11 Gulf Coast's 2-1 overtime win at Copiah-Lincoln. He tied the game in the 81st minute on a penalty kick, then won it three minutes into overtime.

Cam Thomas, a sophomore running back from Picayune, scored two touchdowns in No. 5 Gulf Coast's 33-10 win over archrival Pearl River. He ran 21 times for 129 yards and added three catches for 19 yards. 

George Caratan, a sophomore punter from Pacific Palisades, Calif., averaged 44.3 yards on four punts without allowing a return in No. 5 Gulf Coast's 33-10 win over archrival Pearl River. He had two punts down inside the 20. Caratan leads the MACCC in punting by more than 4 yards (44.6) and ranks third in the country by less than half a yard.

Skyler Steede, a sophomore keeper from Lucedale, had four saves in a 3-0 win at Copiah-Lincoln.
