Etchells, Wilkinson named Bulldogs of the Week

PERKINSTON — Molly Etchells and Matt Wilkinson have been named Bulldogs of the Week for Oct. 18-24.

Etchells, a sophomore defender from Manchester, England, scored a golden girl in Gulf Coast's 1-0 double-overtime win over Copiah-Lincoln.

Wilkinson, a sophomore from Madison, helped lead No. 1/5 Gulf Coast to a runaway victory in the NJCAA Tournament Preview in Joplin, Mo. He shot 3-under over three rounds to finish as the only golfer in red, and Gulf Coast won by 34 shots.

Also nominated:

Mike Smith, a sophomore linebacker/safety from Flora, had 18 total tackles in No. 13 Gulf Coast's 27-24 upset of No. 1 Jones at Ellisville. He had eight solos and 10 assists to lead the Bulldogs. Smith leads the NJCAA and MACCC with 84 total tackles.

Jalen Bracey, a sophomore wide receiver from Jackson, caught seven passes for 160 yards at Jones. His long touchdown passes of 64 and 51 yards were key plays in the victory.

George Caratan, a sophomore punter from Pacific Palisades Calif., landed three of his five punts inside the 20 at Jones. He averaged 39.2 yards.

Hyungjoon Lee, a freshman midfielder from Suwon, South Korea, had two goals and three assists in a 2-0 week for No. 12 Gulf Coast. He had a goal in a 3-1 win over Copiah-Lincoln and a goal and three assists in a 6-0 win at Southwest Mississippi.
