Stogner, Jones named Bulldogs of the Week

PERKINSTON — JC Stogner and Jovi Jones have been named Bulldogs of the Week for April 4-10.

Stogner, a sophomore righty from Sumrall, pitched 8.2 innings of relief to get the win in Gulf Coast's thrilling 15-9 win at East Mississippi. He allowed only run after the first inning, striking out 11 and walking just one.

Jovi Jones, a freshman right-hander from Batesville, shut out East Mississippi 8-0 in her only appearance of the week. She threw a three-hitter over six innings.

Also nominated:

Jesse Johnson, a sophomore third baseman/pitcher from Purvis, batted .467 in a 2-2 week for Gulf Coast. He led a monstrous comeback at East Mississippi, where the Bulldogs rallied from 8-0 down to win 15-9. He had a double, a home run and four RBI. His three-run homer in the seventh tied the game. He also pitched three innings of two-hit, seven-strikeout relief in the second game, allowing an unearned run in the 11th to lose 3-2.

Emaleigh Coates, a sophomore third baseman from Lucedale, batted .545 in a 2-2 week for Gulf Coast last week. She had three doubles and four RBI.

Chase Kaiser, a freshman from Natchez, shot a tournament-best 4-under 68 in the second round of the MACCC Championship. He had a hole-in-one on the fourth hole and charged 12 spots up the leaderboard to finish fourth and earn All-Tournament honors. He also won a place on the All-MACCC First Team for his season-long efforts.
