Sanders, Cole-Johnson named MGCCC Student-Athletes of the Week

PERKINSTON — Precious Sanders and Davion Cole-Johnson have been named MGCCC Student-Athletes of the Week for Jan. 29-Feb. 5.

 

Sanders, a freshman outfielder from Philadelphia, Miss., went 4-for-4 in Mississippi Gulf Coast's second game of the season, clubbing a no-doubter home run, driving in two runs and stealing a base in a 9-7 victory at Faulkner State. In the opener, she went hitless but drew two walks in four plate appearances.

 

Cole-Johnson, a sophomore forward from Glen Ellyn, Ill., averaged 16.5 points, 6.0 rebounds and 5.0 assists in a pair of Mississippi Gulf Coast games this week. He had 21 points, five rebounds and six assists in an 89-71 loss at Southwest. Cole-Johnson had 12 points, seven rebounds, four assists and two steals in a 76-73 win at Hinds.

Eanna Sims, a freshman guard from Jackson, averaged 12.0 points and 8.5 rebound in a pair of Mississippi Gulf Coast games. She had a double-double in a 60-52 loss at Southwest, scoring 14 points and grabbing 12 rebounds. Sims had 10 points and five rebounds in a 61-50 loss at Hinds.

 

Nora Keehn, a sophomore from Thibodaux, La., went 1-0 with a save in Mississippi Gulf Coast's two games last weeks. She recovered from allowing three first-inning runs in the season-opener at Faulkner State to win 6-3, then pitched 2.2 innings in the second game to get the save in a 9-7 victory. She finished the week with a 3.04 ERA, striking out five and walking just one.
