Cain’s big day propels Bulldogs to big win

Brandon Cain starred on the mound and on the plate for Mississippi Gulf Coast on Monday in a 12-4 win at Baton Rouge.

The sophomore from Mobile homered, tripled and struck out four in four innings of one-run pitching. He went 3-for-5 at the plate.

"Brandon got off to a really good start on the mound," Gulf Coast coach Bob Keller said. "He pitched and hit. He had a ball he drove to deep center. He pounded that ball."

A five-run sixth inning broke the game open for the Bulldogs, who had defeated the Bears 8-7 in the season opener on Saturday.

Gulf Coast pounded 13 hits and the pitching staff registered 15 strikeouts. Aiden Seymour (Fr., D'Iberville/D'Iberville) had nine K's in four innings.

"Seymour was legit," Keller said. "He really pounded the zone and threw his breaking ball for strikes."

Marc Stephens (So., Orange Beach, Ala./Gulf Shores) had three hits, including a double, for the second time is as many games to open the season. Gulf Coast defeated Baton Rouge 8-7 on Friday at Perkinston.

Dom Jackson (Fr., Gulf Breeze, Fla./Gulf Breeze) went 2-for-2 with a three-run homer off the bench.

"We hit well; we pitched well," Keller said. "We did something things on both sides of the ball."

Gulf Coast plays at home Friday when Enterprise State visits. First pitch at Ken "Curly" Farris Field is set for 1 p.m. Tickets are available at http://mgcccbulldogs.com/tickets, and the game will be streamed at https://mgcccbulldogs.com/watch.
