Seymour pitches MGCCC to split

Aiden Seymour twirled a six-hitter to lead Mississippi Gulf Coast to a split at Southwest Mississippi on Tuesday.

After giving up three runs in the 10th to lose 11-10 in Game 1, the freshman right-hander from Vancleave beat the Bears 10-3 in the nightcap. He struck out four without a walk.

Kaden Irving (Fr., Gautier/Gautier) hit a solo homer to ignite a five-run fifth that gave the Bulldogs a big cushion. Marc Stephens (So., Orange Beach, Ala./Gulf Shores) extended his hit streak to 20 with an RBI single and finished with three RBI. Dom Jackson (Fr., Gulf Breeze, Fla./Gulf Breeze) joined Irving with two hits.

Charlie Keller (So., Mobile, Ala./Mobile Christian) drove in three runs with a single, a bases-loaded walk and a bases-loaded hit-by-pitch.

In the first game, the Bulldogs rallied from an 8-2 deficit to force extra innings. Charlie Olsen (So., Gulfport/Gulfport), Jackson, Seth Sterling (Fr., Vicksburg/Warren Central) and Dawson Hall (Fr., Gulfport/Gulfport) drove in runs in a four-run eighth to tie it at 8.

Blake Roberts (So., Petal/Petal) had a two-run single in the 10th to put Gulf Coast out front, but the Bears (14-21, 2-6) scored three in the bottom of the inning.

Will Whittington (So., Hattiesburg/Presbyterian Christian) pitched five innings of one-run relief to get Gulf Coast back in the game. Stephens and Keilon Parnell (Fr., Pascagoula/Pascagoula) had two hits each, including doubles.

The Bulldogs (20-8, 6-2) are back at home Saturday when Holmes visits. First pitch at Ken "Curly" Farris Field is set for 2 p.m.
