Lady Bulldogs sweep the courts 9-0

PERKINSTON — No. 20 Mississippi Gulf Coast blasted East Central 9-0 in women's tennis action Friday afternoon at the MGCCC Tennis Complex.

"We still have a ways to go," Gulf Coast coach Gary Bourgeois said. "We're finally starting to put into practice what we work on every day. They're starting to believe in our system and trust it. I think the results are showing."

The Lady Bulldogs improved to 5-3 overall and 4-1 in MACJC play.  They return to action Saturday when Copiah-Lincoln visits Perkinston. Play starts at 1 p.m.

The top of the MGCCC lineup was as good as it is usually, but Bourgeois was impressed by what he saw at the Nos. 4 through 6 singles spots.

Jasmine Sartin (So, Biloxi/Biloxi) won her No. 4 singles match 6-2, 6-2. Jenna Lyons (Fr, Pascagoula/Pascagoula) won 6-2, 6-0 at No. 5, and Jillianne Craft (Fr, Gulfport/St. Patrick) survived a first-set tiebreaker to win 7-6 (7), 6-4.

"They're learning the system and playing well," Bourgeois said. "They're going into a match with confidence; they feel like they can play with anybody. They're making the transition from high school to college play. Mentally, they're making the change, not as much physically."
