McWhorter named MACCC Player of the Week
PERKINSTON — Mississippi Gulf Coast's Alex McWhorter hit a grand slam to win a game last week, and that was only part of an outstanding performance that won him MACCC Baseball Player of the Week honors.
The league announced McWhorter, a freshman third baseman-pitcher from Mobile, Ala., had won the award Tuesday after a vote by conference sports information directors.
McWhorter had hits in all four games, including the home run to beat East Central 7-4. He pitched the final two innings in that game, as well as picking up the save with a shutout inning in a 2-0 win at No. 12 Jones.
He drove in six runs and scored five times as the Bulldogs went 2-2 on the week.
