Bulldogs drop two at No. 9 Meridian

Mississippi Gulf Coast lost twice at No. 9 Meridian in a baseball doubleheader Tuesday, dropping the Bulldogs into a tie for seventh in the MACCC.

Gulf Coast (18-16, 15-11 MACCC) lost 21-12 in eight innings in the first game and 6-4 in the second. The Bulldogs have clinched a spot in the postseason, with a lot on the line in seeding the postseason on Saturday's scheduled final day of conference play.

MGCCC is supposed to travel to Mississippi Delta for a 1 p.m. start, but weather may change those plans. The Bulldogs, who are tied with Jones, could finish as low as ninth or as high as fifth depending on Saturday's outcomes.

Alec Hardy (Fr., Wiggins/Stone), Alex McWhorter (Fr., Mobile Ala./Faith Academy) and Tucker Thomas (So., Biloxi/Biloxi) homered for the Bulldogs in the first game. Canaan Ray (Fr., Poplarville/Poplarville) drove in three runs with two hits, including a triple, and Ethan Coleman (Fr., Lucedale/George County) had two hits, including a double.

Dawson Walters (Fr., Flora/Tri-County Academy) survived a shaky first inning to keep Gulf Coast in the second game. The Bulldogs scraped together their four runs on just five singles.
