Dawsons sweep MACCC honors

PERKINSTON — Not only did Mississippi Gulf Coast baseball pull off the rare sweep of the MACCC Player of the Week honors, but the Bulldogs also got the even-rarer Dawson Double.

Dawson Walters won Player of the Week for his efforts at the plate, and Dawson Flowers won Pitcher of the Week for his work on the mound.

Walters, a freshman shortstop from Flora, had seven hits in Gulf Coast's final conference doubleheader and batted .667 for the week. He had a double in both games at Mississippi Delta, with three hits in the first game and four in the second on the way to five RBI on the day. He also had two hits, including a triple, in a 7-2 win over No. 19 East Central.

Flowers, a freshman from Brookhaven, threw a three-hitter to beat East Central 7-2. He struck out eight and walked three. Flowers also pitched the ninth inning in a loss at Delta.
