Johnson named MACJC Player of the Week

PERKINSTON — R'Tarriun Johnson has been named MACJC Defensive Player of the Week after Mississippi Gulf Coast's dominant 30-7 win over archrival Pearl River.

Johnson helped a stifling Bulldogs defense hold PRCC to 130 total yards and eight first downs.

The sophomore safety from Stone High had 10 tackles, a forced fumble and an interception in Gulf Coast's 30-7 win over Pearl River. He also had two tackles for loss, and his 30-yard interception return in the fourth quarter set up a short touchdown drive to seal the victory.

It's the fourth time this season a Gulf Coast player has been named Player of the Week. Quarterback Lowell Narcisse (Fr., St. James/St. James La.)  won Offensive Player of the Week earlier in the season, and punter/kicker Mason Hunt (So., Stone/Wiggins) twice won Special Teams Player of the Week.

Johnson will be eligible for the NJCAA Player of the Week award.
