No. 15 Bulldogs streak past ICC

No. 15 Mississippi Gulf Coast overcame a slow start Friday, then ran past and away from Itawamba. The Bulldogs won 5-1 in Fulton thanks to four second-half goals.

Fabien Barker (So., Madison/Madison Central) scored twice for Gulf Coast, which picked up its first goals and its first win of the season. The Bulldogs had been shut out by tough opponents in their first two games.

Itawamba (1-2) scored in the 12th minute, but Pacey Johnson (Fr., Hattiesburg/Oak Grove) drew a penalty 15 minutes later. Abdul Omar (So., Madison/Germantown) converted, and the teams made it to halftime tied at 1.

Barker broke the tie with his first goal, which came in the 50th minute. It came on a rebound of a shot by Klaidas Pudlauskas (Fr., London, England/Gaynes School). Barker returned the favor and set up Pudlauskas' goal about 30 minutes later.

In the final five minutes, Johnson got a goal of his own off an assist by Seongbin Son (Fr., Seoul, South Korea/Guhyun). Barker also took advantage of an open net after a collision between the ICC keeper and defender to close out the scoring.

Gulf Coast returns to action next Friday with a trip to Meridian. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
