No. 11 MGCCC moves to 2-0 in South

Hyungjoon Lee got both goals for No. 11 Mississippi Gulf Coast in a 2-1 victory at Copiah-Lincoln on Friday, the second coming in the third minute of overtime.

Alwayne Whittaker (So., Biloxi/Biloxi) had a hand in setting up both goals for the Bulldogs, who stayed perfect in two MACCC South games to improve to 3-2 overall.

"We had decent chances in the second half, but their keeper played really well," Gulf Coast coach Chris Handy said. "I thought Co-Lin's gameplan was really good. They wanted to slow the game down, and they did."

The Wolves (3-2, 1-2 South) took a lead in the 67th minute, but Whittaker was taken down in the penalty area in the 81st minute. Lee stepped to the spot and tied it up, and it stayed that way through regulation.

Gulf Coast pushed Lee forward in overtime, and the move paid off almost immediately for the golden goal. Whittaker attacked down the wing and played his teammate through for the winner.

Friday's game was supposed to be played at Perkinston, but wet field conditions caused by tropical weather forced the change in venue. The Bulldogs will finally play their first home division game Tuesday when Southwest Mississippi visits for a 7 p.m. kickoff.
