Gulf Coast men lose at Poplarville

A cold-shooting night at the office cost Mississippi Gulf Coast in a rivalry showdown against Pearl River on Thursday at Poplarville, where the Bulldogs lost 60-49.

MGCCC shot just 28.3 percent from the field, including under 20 percent from the 3-point line.

Jabarie Robinson (Fr., Raymond/Raymond) led Gulf Coast with 12 points. Donovan Sanders (So., Walls/Lake Cormorant) and Darius Dawson (So., Sumter S.C./West Florence) finished with 10 each.

Gulf Coast (7-10, 1-4 MACCC) trailed by as many as eight in the first half, but JaVon Anderson (So., Columbia S.C./Ridge View) hit a three at the buzzer and the Bulldogs trailed only 24-21.

Dawson made a 3 about 90 seconds into the second half to tie it up at 26, and the Bulldogs would lead 35-33 on another make behind the arc by Sanders (So., Walls/Lake Cormorant) with 13:38 to play.

Pearl River scored the next 11 points to help break a two-game losing streak. The Wildcats are 11-4, 3-2.

Gulf Coast plays back at Dantzler Arena on Monday. Coahoma visits for a 6 p.m. conference matchup.
