Sophomore Night will have playoff implications

PERKINSTON — Mississippi Gulf Coast's path to a spot in the NJCAA Region 23 Men's Basketball Tournament is convoluted, but a win in the regular-season finale would go a long way to making sure the Bulldogs get to the playoffs.

Gulf Coast will celebrate three players during Sophomore Night ceremonies before the 6 p.m. tipoff against third-place East Mississippi. The game at Dantzler Arena will be streamed at https://mgcccbulldogs.com/watch. 

The Bulldogs are in a four-way tie for ninth place in the MACCC, and they can't get into an automatic spot in the top eight. After the Louisiana champion is included in the field, the three remaining spots will be determined by Massey Ratings. Gulf Coast would be the 11-seed headed into the final night of regular-season play.

The Bulldogs are tied with Holmes, Coahoma and East Central. They are just in front of Coahoma and East Central in the computer rankings.

Donovan Sanders (So., Walls/Lake Cormorant), Darius Dawson (So., Sumter S.C./West Florence) and JaVon Anderson (So., Columbia S.C./Ridge View) will be honored for their contributions to the program.

• MGCCC lost 87-80 to Copiah-Lincoln in Wesson on Tuesday.
