MGCCC wins two more at Bulldog Classic

PERKINSTON — Mississippi Gulf Coast closed out the Bulldog Classic in style Saturday, sweeping Central Alabama at Ross-Smith Field.

The Bulldogs won the first game 11-3 in six innings and got the nightcap 8-4.

"That was really good team softball," Gulf Coast coach David Kuhn said. "The pitchers came through and pounded the strike zone. We had a lot of good at-bats and some good two-strike hitting, some timely hitting. I thought we played really good defense. It's been a good three days for us."

The Bulldogs (15-9) won all four games over three days at the tournament.

Olivia Falcon (Fr., St. Amant, La./St. Amant) threw five strong innings in the opener, allowing just two hits.

Natalie Shaw (So., Olive Branch/Marshall Academy) had three doubles, and Aleah Beaugez (Fr., D'Iberville/D'Iberville) had her first collegiate homer and added a double of her own among her three hits.

"Natalie was on fire," Kuhn said. "Aleah swung the bat really good today. I thought those two stood out."

Down 4-2 in the fourth inning of the second game, AB Parrish (Fr., Corinth/Alcorn Central) hit a short grounder with runners at second and third. Jett Harrell (So., Clarksdale/Lee Academy) got caught off the bag and just ran home, sliding and knocking the ball loose. Jorja Roberson (So., Branyan/East Union) followed from second to tie the game.

Shaw rifled a single to left for a 5-4 lead, and Beaugez plated her with a missile to center. CC Lynn (So., Waynesboro/Wayne County) reached on an infield single to make it 7-4.

Harrell entered in relief in the fourth inning and earned the win. She allowed one run the rest of the way. She also had three hits.

Lynn, Roberson and Beaugez had two hits each.
