Bulldogs fall 78-63 at No. 12 Jones

Mississippi Gulf Coast dug a big hole to the 12th-ranked team in the country early, fought back to tie early in the second half but lost 78-63 to Jones in Ellisville on Monday night.

Simaru Fields (Fr., Gulfport/Gulfport) had 16 points to lead Gulf Coast, which falls to 6-3 overall and 1-1 in MACCC play.

An early 13-0 run put the Bulldogs behind 23-12 after 10 minutes. Gulf Coast got within 29-27 in the second quarter, but trailed by five at halftime.

Fields made a 3-pointer to open the second half, and TK Catchings (So., New Hebron/Simpson Academy) scored in the lane to tie it at 37-37 with 8:33 on the clock.

Gulf Coast stayed within range in the quarter, trailing 50-44 at the final break before Jones pulled away in the fourth.

Ja'Sharreah Hunt (Fr., Roxie/Franklin County) had 13 points and six rebounds., while Catchings notched another double-double with an 11-point, 13-rebound night off the bench. Tytiana Buckley (Fr., Meridian/Meridian) also had 11 points.

Jones improves to 10-3, 2-0.

Gulf Coast is back at home Thursday when Mississippi Delta visits. Tipoff at Dantzler Arena is set for 6 p.m. The game will be streamed at https://mgcccbulldogs.com/watch.
