Fields scores MACCC Player of the Week
PERKINSTON — Simaru Fields had a week to remember for the Mississippi Gulf Coast women's basketball team, and she'll remember it even more fondly because she's been named MACCC Player of the Week.
The freshman guard from Gulfport averaged 24.5 points, 8.5 rebounds, 4.5 steals and 4.0 assists during the Bulldogs' 2-0 week.
In a 66-50 win over Northwest Mississippi, she poured in 31 points and eight of her 11 rebounds were on the offensive glass. She also had five assists and three steals. In a 58-44 win at Southwest Mississippi, she scored 18 points and had six rebounds with six steals.
Fields is the second Gulf Coast player this season to be named Player of the Week by the conference, and she's now eligible for NJCAA honors, which will be announced Wednesday. TK Catchings has won conference awards twice.
