No. 11 Women blast No. 20 ECCC

PERKINSTON — No. 11 Mississippi Gulf Coast notched its second straight 8-1 victory to open the MACCC women's tennis season Friday, taking care of No. 20 East Central at the MGCCC Tennis Complex.

The Bulldogs beat Itawamba by an identical score Tuesday in Fulton and are now 3-0 overall.

"I think they're meshing well together on the doubles courts," Gulf Coast coach Sam Blackburn said. "They're playing good tennis. I think they've gotten into a real midseason-type groove going, and I think from here we're only going to get better as well. I'm looking forward to seeing how they rise up and do good things."

Tanyaradzwa Kaome (So., Harare, Zimbabwe/The Heritage School) and Angela Moreno (Fr., Sevilla, Spain/IES V Centenario) broke their opponents at 6-6 and served out the match to finish the doubles sweep.

Bayley Askin (So., St. Martin/St. Martin) won her No. 3 match 6-0, 6-0 to lead the charge in singles. Hayden Hensarling (So., Ocean Springs/Ocean Springs) clinched the team win by closing out her No. 4 singles match 6-0, 6-1.

Gulf Coast is back in action at Perk on Mardi Gras. First serves Tuesday are set for 2 p.m.
