No. 11 Women win 9-0 again

No. 11 Mississippi Gulf Coast blanked it second straight MACCC women's tennis foe Friday, beating No. 21 Copiah-Lincoln 9-0 in Wesson.

"It's great to beat a team like Co-Lin that's been tricky in the past," Gulf Coast coach Sam Blackburn said. "We jumped on them in doubles and had a great win at No. 1 doubles with Tanya and Angie getting a 9-7 win. We really just went from there and went on cruise control. It was a good win."

Tanyaradzwa Kaome (So., Harare, Zimbabwe/The Heritage School) and Angela Moreno won the closest match of the day 9-7 to help Gulf Coast stay unbeaten. The Bulldogs are 4-0 in MACCC play, having dropped only two courts.

Moreno won her No. 2 singles match with ease, matching No. 3 Bayley Askin (So., St. Martin/St. Martin) at No. 3 with 6-0, 6-1 wins. Kendall Burn (Fr., Wiggins/Stone) won her No. 5 singles match 6-1, 6-0.

Gulf Coast is rolling heading into Tuesday's clash with No. 12 Jones. The teams will play at the MGCCC Tennis Complex in a fight for the top spot in the conference.

"I feel like we're in a really good spot," Blackburn said. "I think we're playing confidently and we're healthy, strong and fit. I think we're ready for Tuesday. We're excited to have a tough match and a big match that means a lot. They know what's at stake, and they're excited and pumped up to try to get the win."
