Burn, Askin named All-MACCC

ELLISVILLE — Mississippi Gulf Coast's Kendall Burn and Bayley Askin were named to the All-MACCC Women's Tennis team on Friday afternoon.

The duo picked up their awards at ceremonies held during the NJCAA Region 23 Tournament before the Bulldogs played their quarterfinal match.

The Gulf Coast team also picked up its MACCC runners-up trophy.

Eight players from the 11-team conference were named All-MACCC. Gulf Coast, Jones and Meridian each had two players.

Askin, a sophomore from St. Martin, went 9-0 in conference play mainly at No. 3 singles. She lost just once at No. 3 doubles.

"Bayley has been incredible the entire year," Gulf Coast coach Sam Blackburn said. "From beginning to end, she's played her best. She gives it her all every day. She deserves this award as much as anybody else out there. I'm really proud and not surprised at all."

Burn, a freshman from Wiggins, also went undefeated in MACCC play at No. 5 singles, losing just once at No. 2 doubles.

"For a freshman to be on that list is really special," Blackburn said. "She's been great. Being in the lineup as a freshman brings some pressure, and she's gotten some big wins for us at No. 5. I'm really proud and expected nothing less from her."
