No. 12 Women’s Tennis wins top-15 match

No. 12 Mississippi Gulf Coast finished a grueling stretch of four road matches Saturday by beating o. 13 Wallace State 6-3 in Hanceville, Ala.

The Bulldogs improved to 9-4 overall after dropping three against top-10 teams earlier in the week.

Tanyaradzwa Kaome (So., Harare, Zimbabwe/The Heritage School) and Angela Moreno (Fr., Sevilla, Spain/IES V Centenario) won their No. 1 doubles match easily at 8-1. They also won their top two singles matches.

Bayley Askin (So., St. Martin/St. Martin) teamed up with Abigail Garman (So., Diamondhead/Hancock) to give the Bulldogs a 2-1 lead after doubles by winning 8-5 at No. 3. Askin got a second point by winning her No. 3 singles match in straight sets.

Gulf Coast is 6-1 in MACCC, and the Bulldogs will be back in conference action following spring break. They'll entertain Southwest Mississippi on March 28, with first serves set for 2 p.m.
