No. 12 MGCCC heads to postseason with win

No. 12 Mississippi Gulf Coast closes out its women's tennis regular season Tuesday by blanking Northwest Mississippi in Senatobia.

The Bulldogs (12-4) won all nine courts to close out the MACCC schedule 9-1.

"It was pretty straightforward," Gulf Coast coach Sam Blackburn said. "It was what they needed to do. I told them we wanted to get on and off the court and get the job done, and they did that very efficiently. It was a good day for them."

The Bulldogs dropped only three games in three doubles matches, and the same number on six singles courts.

Gulf Coast is the MACCC runner-up and will take the No. 2 seed in the NJCAA Region 23 Tournament. With 11 teams back competing in the conference, the tournament will include eight teams.

It will be played in Ellisville at the end of next week, which gives the Bulldogs seven days off before they play again.

"We're going to be grooving our swings and working on our fitness and conditioning," Blackburn said. "We're going to be hitting lots of balls to be peaking at the right time. We want to be sharp with our agility, our ball-striking and our doubles play. We want to be ready as possible come next week."
