No. 12 Gulf Coast battles No. 2 Cowley

No. 12 Mississippi Gulf Coast faced its highest-ranked opponent Tuesday to wrap up a three-day swing through Texas and had its strongest showing.

Gulf Coast lost 9-0 to second-ranked Cowley County but had better showings on just about all courts.

Tanyaradzwa Kaome (So., Harare, Zimbabwe/The Heritage School) and Angela Moreno (Fr., Sevilla, Spain/IES V Centenario) lost 8-4 at No. 1 doubles, and Kaome took her No. 1 singles opponent to a first-set tiebreak.

Niyah Strickland (Fr., Quitman/Pacuta), bumped up a spot to No. 5 singles, lost 6-4, 6-2. Moreno lost 6-1, 6-3 at No. 2 singles. 

Gulf Coast (8-4) played No. 3 Tyler and No. 8 Collin County earlier on the trip. The Bulldogs will play at Wallace State-Hanceville on Saturday before Spring Break next week. They'll be back in MACCC action against Southwest Mississippi on March 28 at Perk.
