Bulldogs ease past William Carey 96-67

PERKINSTON – Davion Cole-Johnson and Dylan Causwell each had 18 points Thursday to pace Mississippi Gulf Coast to an easy 96-67 victory of the William Carey JV.

"It was another game we should have won this way, and we won this way," Gulf Coast coach Wendell Weathers said. "I'm not really disappointed with how we played once we got started."

Gulf Coast (3-0) used a 15-0 run at the Weathers/Wentzell Center to take a 16-4 lead early and never looked back.

Cole-Johnson had 10 of his points in the first nine minutes, while Causwell heated up in the second half, hitting three 3-pointers in a five-minute span.

Maurice Stephens added 16 points, with Deshawn Jones chipping in 14. Tedrian Brisco had 11 for Gulf Coast.

The Bulldogs struggled late in their game against Bishop State this week but straightened out one shortcoming against the Crusaders (0-5).

"Our zone offense was better than it was Monday night," said Weathers.

One area that didn't show much improvement was at the charity stripe.

"Our offense is doing what it's supposed to do," Weathers said. "We're getting to the line 38 times, and we're missing 16 free throws. That's unheard of. Good teams can't do that."

Gulf Coast returns to action Saturday when the Bulldogs travel to play Baton Rouge Community College. Tipoff is at 4 p.m.
