MGCCC’s Gonzalez signs with North Carolina A&T
PERKINSTON — Mississippi Gulf Coast's Eliel Gonzalez has signed a scholarship with North Carolina A&T to continue his college basketball career in Division I.
Gonzalez, a 6-2, 170-pound point guard from Cayey, Puerto Rico, played one season in Perkinston. He averaged 7.9 point, 2.5 rebounds and 2.4 assists per game for the Bulldogs. He scored 27 points in a 105-97 overtime victory over Pearl River and had double-figure points in 11 games.
Gonzalez played his freshman year at Division I Hofstra, where he played in 19 games.
North Carolina A&T's new coach, Jay Joyner, expect Gonzalez to compete for the starting point guard position and said he sees the floor well and makes good decisions.
Joyner took over N.C. A&T in late January and led the Aggies to a 5-3 record in Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference play. They finished 10-22 overall, 7-9 MEAC.
