Gulf Coast is a perfect 10
Down 10 points at half at Delgado on Wednesday was a completely new situation for Mississippi Gulf Coast.
The Bulldogs stayed perfect by coming back after the break, beating the Dolphins 80-75 to improve to 10-0.
"We had a pretty good heart to heart at halftime, and they came out the second half and flipped the switch," Gulf Coast coach Wendell Weathers said. "We were certainly not the same team defensively the second half. We were much better."
Gulf Coast trailed 48-38, the first halftime deficit of the season, but allowed just 27 points in the final 20 minutes.
Davison Cole-Johnson had 19 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Bulldogs, with Anfernee Hampton chipping in 17 points.
Delgado falls to 3-10.
Gulf Coast completed its pre-Christmas schedule and returns to action Jan. 7 when Delgado pays a return visit to Perkinston.
"We've done about as good as we could do and about as good as we could hope for. We've had a great start to this thing," Weathers said. "Our kids definitely need a break. We need to get away from each other.
"Hopefully, in a few weeks we can come back and be refreshed and start all over again with a new desire and dedication. We'll see if we can finish this thing out."
